About the observatory

The Seismological Observatory at the Faculty of Natural Sciences and Mathematics, Ss. Cyril and Methodius University, Skopje, Republic of Macedonia, according to the Law of Participation  the Republic in the Financing of the Seismological and Engineering-seismological Activities (Official Gazette of the SRM, No. 18, 10 October 1983, pp. 330 331), is the only institution in Republic of Macedonia that is authorized and obliged to maintain the seismological network in the Republic, to perform permanently the seismological monitoring of the seismic activity in the territory of the Republic and wider, to make the corresponding scientific research (including the defining of the seismic hazard), to compile and update the map of seismic zonation of the territory of the Republic of Macedonia, to store the seismological data, to public the seismological data (including the reports to the public about the felt earthquakes in the Republic), as well as to participate in the international exchange of seismological data. This institution is also responsible for the educational activities in the fields of seismology and geophysics. It also has publication rights.
