The main fields in which the Seismological Observatory of the Faculty of Natural Sciences and Mathematics in Skopje realizes its applications are:
Thus, the observatory participated in the urban and environmental planning in the Republic of Macedonia, in the compilations of maps of seismic microzoning of many areas in the Republic, in preparing the normative for aseismic design in the seismic areas in the Republic, as well as in the geological, seismological and seismotectonics investigations in all areas of the Republic and in many other areas of the former Yugoslavia where dams, reservoirs, power plants, thermal plants and other capital buildings were planned to be constructed.
Many of the maps of seismic microzoning in which preparation the researchers from the observatory were involved have entered into formal, legally regulated use. Such a map is: N. Grujić, D. Gojgić, M. Arsovski and D. Hadžievski, Seismic Microzoning Map of the City of Skopje, 1966. This map served as the basis for the new urban plan of Skopje after the devastating earthquake of 26 July 1963.
For the last 15 years, the оbservatory has developed original softwareс for problems related to the seismological service and scientific research work.
The most important application projects of the observatory in the last decade include the monitoring of the regular and induced seismicity in the areas around the accumulations for the following dams:
