Spatial and technical conditions

The spatial and technical conditions of the Seismological Observatory of the Faculty of Natural Sciences and Mathematics in Skopje (which seat building is far from the seat building of the faculty) meet the current needs for the seismological service, research, applications, teaching and publishing activities.

The existing seismological and computer equipment satisfy the needs for theoretical education and practical exercises in seismology.

There are enough plugins for Internet, but the networking toward the server in the seat building of theFaculty of Natural Sciences and Mathematics in Skopje (from where the link goes to the seat building of the University Cyril and Methodius in Skopje) is below standards, and causes major problems in Internet communication of the observatory with seismological institutions from abroad. Therefore, it was necessary to provide new IP addresses for the observatory,which ncreased the monthly costs.

In the seat building of the Seismological Observatory of Natural Sciences and Mathematics in Skopje there are:

  • a hall for seismometers,
  • a hall for digital recorders,
  • four rooms for galvanometric analog registration on photo paper,
  • a hall for software analysis of the current seismic data,
  • a geomagnetic laboratory,
  • an IT laboratory,
  • a hall for projects’documentation,
  • a library with a projector (for lectures in seismology and geophysics)
  • nine offices for the staff,
  • a residential part of the building's caretaker,
  • ancillary rooms.

In the building of the seismological station in Ohrid there are:

  • a hall for seismometers,
  • a hall for a digital recorder and software analysis of the seismological data,
  • a room for galvanometric analog registration on photo paper,
  • three offices,
  • a residential part fbuilding's caretaker,
  • ancillary rooms.

In the building of the seismological station in Valandovo there are:

  • a hall for seismometers,
  • a hall for a digital recorder and software analysis of the seismological data,
  • a room for galvanometric analog registration on photo paper,
  • an ,
  • a residential part fbuilding's caretaker,
  • ancillary rooms.

The remaining three stations of the permanent telemetric network of the Republic of Macedonia (in Štip, Bitola and Kruševo) are in rented parts of various institutions.
