Since its foundation in 1957, the Seismological Observatory of the Faculty of Natural Sciences and Mathematics in Skopjehas been steadily increasing the holdings of books, journals and manuscripts in the field of seismology and related scientific disciplines. The library of the observatory has now over 2,000 books, over 8,000 individual numbers of 56 periodical magazines and over 200 manuscripts. Additionally, there is a huge archive of seismological bulletins, catalogues and maps prepared by the observatory, as well as an archive of seismological bulletins from other seismological institutions worldwide, obtained in the regular international exchange of seismic data.
However, since 1990, the observatory has been facing financial problems in increasing its library fund. Nowadays, only one international journal of seismology is obtained in print form (and free of charge), and only some of the world's most important new books in the field of seismology and geophysics can be purchased.
Otherwise, the library of the observatory possesses the required textbooks for the subjects included in the first and second cycleсof the study programme Applied Physics – Geophysics, organized by the Institute of Physics of the Faculty of Natural Sciences and Mathematics in Skopje, in which the researchers from the observatory are supposed to give lectures.
