Education and Popularization of Seismology
The Seismological Observatory of the Faculty of Natural Sciences and Mathematics in Skopje, under the new curriculum of the Institute of Physics at the same faculty (made in the academic year 2011/2012), is planned to take part in the teaching at the first cycle study programme Applied Physics – Geophysics.
Previously, from the academic year 1998/99, the observatory has participated in the teaching at the former study programme Geophysics with Meteorology of the Institute of Physics of the Faculty of Natural Sciences and Mathematics in Skopje, as well as at the study programmeMathematics – Physics at the same faculty.
The observatory, under the new curriculum of the Institute of Physics of the Faculty of Natural Sciences and Mathematics in Skopje (made in the academic year 2011/2012), is planned to take part in the teaching at the second cycle study program Applied Physics – Geophysics at the same institute.
The observatory participates in teaching the subject Engineering Seismology at the post-graduate studies in earthquake engineering of the Institute of Earthquake Engineering and Engineering Seismology (IZIIS) in Skopje.
The observatory participated in the teaching process at the former master-degree studies of IZIIS in Skopje, in the subjects Seismology and Engineering Seismology.
The exercises in the subject Seismology of the International Course on Aseismic Design and Construction (CADAC), organized for students coming from the developing countries by IZIIS in Skopje and by the Netherlands Government in the period 1982–2008, were also held at the observatory.
The observatory gives lectures on seismology and geophysics for students and pupils, on initiatives of individual faculties and schools in Republic of Macedonia. This institution regularly publishes articles in popular magazines and newspapers. Related to foundations and development of seismology, these articles are intended for pupils, teachers and wider public.
